RFL2k Faulty Forecast |
as long as emmitt and james stewart stay healthy [knock knock], i feel
that the Fire in the Hole RB situation is in good hands. i also like the
kerry collins to amani toomer combination - although rob johnson will be
the starter until the magic flutie stabs him in the back. sharpe and
wilkins should be a little above average, so the key will be finding a
2nd WR to pair with toomer. mathis and engram have potential. northcutt
was a bit of a reach in the 12th round.
edgerrin was the no-brainer at #1. i also like westbrook and elam. there
are a lot of question marks regarding %$#@!&'s other 4 starting
positions. will kitna perform at a high level again? will rhett hang
onto the RB job AND put up some decent numbers? will a #2 WR emerge from
qadry/morton/dawkins? will lafleur catch anywhere near 7 TDs again?
grbac is a good sub for kitna, rhett probably will need replacing,
there's a good #2 WR in there, and TE is a crapshoot after Gonzalez and
Walls.
after making his way to last year's Aglione Bowl with ninja-like
stealth, joepa has much more respect from me this year. although fred
taylor is dinged up now, terrell davis and fred will make an unstoppable
RB duo come playoff time. gannon to galloway is also a top-notch passing
tandem. when healthy, sloan is an above average TE. lion teammate hanson
is a solid PK. solid production is expected from the #2 WR spot -
whether it be from holt, kevin johnson or david boston. if this team
peaks during the playoffs, there might be no one to stop Black Ops from
winning Aglione Bowl XI.
duce and dillon are a solid RB pair. t richardson is KC's anointed
starter, but 45 yards and 0 TDs every week doesn't mean squat in RFL.
shaun alexander should take r watters' starting spot by the time dillon
gets 10-15 for spousal abuse. tim brown and vanderjagt are also very
solid. vesh's aerial assault is completed with the duo of brad johnson
to albert connell. as long as johnson's toe doesn't fall off, vesh's
team should be very solid... but another loss in the 1st round of the
playoffs is entirely likely.
according to my very complex numerical modeling system, cals' starting 7
was 1 of only 2 squads (joepa had the other) where every projected
starter had a non-negative value. stover was a 0 for cals. holt and
hanson were 0's for joepa. isaac bruce, jamal anderson and t biakabutuka
are the projected stars on Fresh Squeezed. however, each has a *recent*
history of debilitating boo-boos. mcnown and crowell are also quite
good. pollard and dilger will rock-paper-scissors for the colt TE TD
once every 3 games.
the Carpet Bombers' weaknesses are minor - TE and PK. coates was washed
up 2 years ago. longwell will not get many scoring opportunities once
favre opts for season-ending surgery. kurt warner, wheatley, jimmy smith
and derrick mayes should all be high-achievers. watters might have a
tough time holding off shaun alexander in seattle, but tim shrewdly
drafted jr redmond - who will probably displace k faulk at about the
same time (if not sooner).
i really like Curly Back Hair's RB twosome of stephen davis and charlie
garner (taking s davis over m faulk at #2 was quite interesting). i
think o mare will also kick loads of FGs, since miami has no one to
score TDs. i expect beuerlein to sign a big $ extension tomorrow, and i
fully expect him to earn it this year (even though Aglione Bowl X MVP p
jeffers is out for the year). if pete mitchell gets healthy, he'll
produce. the key for adam is getting solid numbers from his WRs (rocket,
tim dwight, oronde and shawn jefferson).
m faulk slipped to the Heirs to the Ayatollah at #3, and ali was quite
happy to welcome marshall into the fold - especially with the new 50
yard rule. robert smith and wycheck are also big on the yardage numbers
- and light on the TDs. del greco should get plenty of points with
Tennessee's pickens-injected offense. QB and WR is where ali's club
hangs in the balance. d culpepper could be *BOOM* or *BUST*. how hard
can it be to lob balls out there for moss and carter? we'll find out
this year. chrebet, jacquez and dyson... i think there's a need for help
here.
eddie george, carl pickens and freddie jones should be doing plenty of
Indecipherable Jive Talk-ing for clark this year. thomas jones has
already claimed the Cardinals' starting RB job, but will he be an
edgerrin or a ricky williams in his rookie year? testaverde and greasy
gives clark a slightly below average QB pair, and warrick and donald
hayes might be hard-pressed to produce at a #2 WR level. g anderson was
ranked pretty low in many preseason projections, but i think the Vikes
will give him many scoring opportunities.
todd peterson?!? worse yet... kris heppner?!?!? how the "mighty" have
fallen. :,-( trying to cover up for drafting deficiencies by feigning
a lack of preparedness... signing all emails as a self-proclaimed
"guru"... it's all quite sad. aside from heppner, this team was built
for 1998 (or 1997). chris chandler, dorsey levens, jerome bettis, cris
carter, ed mccaffrey, wesley walls... Na Brown's Boys are RFL's version
of the Niners - without the past glory. poor salary cap management,
faulty loyalty to talentless veterans, ... the only positive thing about
joebob's charges this year is a (relative) lack of the criminal element.
each year i always have a team that places much lower in my numerical
model than i would place normally. this year that team is wally's. i
really like how Crazed Beagles was able to build a star-studded passing
game (p manning, m robinson, a freeman, j riemersma) while still putting
together a capable set of RBs (w dunn, k faulk and o gary). can k faulk
hold off jr redmond? will terrell davis stay healthy all season? wally's
alliance must dictate the answers to these questions. and as long as
janikowski doesn't get deported back to poland, the PK points should
come rolling in.
The Armchair Quarterback Adventure Playset (tm) trio of air mcnair, ron
dayne and rickey dudley should prove to be quite prolific. the other 4
starting spots could prove to be quite the enigma. cloud, fazande, j
allen and r rivers don't appear to add up to a #2 RB between all 4 of
them. t glenn, rob smith, j horn and mccardell could struggle to fill
the 2 WR spots. and starting a NO Saints PK is never a good thing.
mcnair was a fast climber on many draftboards, but taking him at #12?
that was most ballsy.
Minnesota Nice's RB duo of c martin and r williams is quite good. jamal
lewis is a high-quality 3rd RB. i also like stephen alexander and john
carney to put up decent numbers this year. the smaller problem would
appear to be at QB. bledsoe's development seems to've fallen short of
where "experts" projected him to go. plummer seems to be all hype and no
skills. the largest problem for kevin is in starting 2 RFL-quality WRs
every week. frank sanders, jake reed, tony martin, derrick alexander and
curtis conway is a motley crew.
considering brodz' pass-catching trio of marvin harrison, eric moulds
and tony gonzalez... i did not expect to find this team ranked so lowly.
but upon closer inspection, the talent at QB and RB is highly
questionable. t banks (although the winning starting QB in Aglione Bowl
X) will most likely be re-exposed as a hack this year, and tim couch
most likely won't fare much better. antowain smith, travis prentice,
ahman green and fred beasley makes for a most meager quartet of RBs.
hollis should prove to be an average PK.
i like richard's core of randy moss, keyshawn and curtis enis. i also
expect brunell to bounce back this year - especially if the Jags
continue to have RB woes this season. gramatica could battle vanderjagt
for all-RFL honors this year. the problems i see are as follows:
a) although enis would make a fine #2 RB, there is no #1 RB on this team
(nap kaufman is the only other RB currently on the roster).
b) bubba franks has the potential to score big, but too many things
could go wrong.
c) the overall talent level on this team seems to be a little low.
although i said i "like" the core of this team, i've got no *love* for
the core.
without cousin snehal around to cover up for shiv's inexperience, this
once revered Team Desai franchise is clearly showing growing pains. when
the 2 team leaders are alstott and a rag-armed favre... that team is in
*BIG* trouble. there's no #2 RB, the WR foursome (muhsin, t owens, az
hakim and ike hilliard) is not fearsome in the least, blindly picking
the Ram TE will get you nowhere, and the PK pairing of conway and
daluiso is weak. what Nasty Pimps *NEEDS* is a tiki barber!
