**** RFL WEEK IN REVIEW **** | ||
IF THE SEASON WAS HALF AS LONG AS IT ACTUALLY IS... |
---|
...these would be the playoff matchups:
#1 seed Heirs to the Ayatollah vs. #8 %$!@#&
#2 TheDeterminedSpermWhichSquirm... vs. #7 Minnesota Nice
#3 All Jacked Up vs. #6 Fresh Squeezed
#4 Fire in the Hole vs. #5 Carpet Bombers
The current cutoff line is being 4-3 vs 3-4. Adam's Curly Back Hair is
currently the team on the outside closest to getting in. Joebob, Shivan,
Stan and JoePa are also at 3-4 and breathing down %$!@#&'s neck.
Ali's 67-26 flattening of Cals in this week's GOTW removes any doubt as
to who is the Steamroller favorite heading into the 2nd half of the
season.

**** GAME OF THE WEEK ****
****************************
Heirs to the Ayatollah 67
Fresh Squeezed 26
Both of these teams were coming off Week 6 losses and looking to re-assert themselves as the Steamroller frontrunner at the season's halfway point. The unquestioned frontrunner: Ali's HTTA - as MFaulk and RSmith combined for 40 pts in RB production, and Daunte chipped in 9 more as RFL2k's midseason #2 QB. Cals' Fresh Squeezed appeared hung over coming off their loss to TET. Jamal Anderson put in a citrussy-boosted effort, but was letdown by his teammates - as no other FS starter scored more than 3 pts. Frank and Al reprised their Monday Night duet for 15 "running up the score" pts. Dan Dierdorf was nowhere to be found.

Fire in the Hole 25
What did Gary ever do to deserve this superhuman effort from Edgerrin?!? RFL can certainly deflate any case of IHS instantaneously. Wang was feeling pretty good about himself - sitting at 5-0. But with 2 consecutive drubbings, FITH looks to be in the fight of its life to hang onto a postseason berth. Elvis and Christie supported EJames nicely for %$!@#&. Wang was reduced to taking comfort in the moral victory of JR Redmond outgaining Fuamatu-Ma'afala 2 yds to 1 in Fuamatu-Ma'afala's RFL debut (and swan-song?). Edgerrin and Marshall appear to be locked in a duel for season top-scoring honors again. Edgerrin won last year.

Curly Back Hair 33
Na Brown's Boys 56
After starting the season 1-4, Joebob has rebounded nicely with 51-29 and 56-33 victories in the last 2 weeks. All 7 Na Brown's Boys starters scored - as Cris Carter and Jason Elam led the way combining for 26. The Levens-Bettis backfield also continued to be productive. Adam's Curly Back Hair has the look of a potentially solid .500 club. 7-7 might be good enough for a playoff spot; 8-6 should definitely get Adam an invite. SDavis and CGarner continue to lead CBH's #2 rushing attack. That female PK from Duke suited up for Adam.

All Jacked Up 49
Merry Munching Merkins 34
Vesh had a 9-pt lead (and the bench pts advantage) heading into Monday Night Madness, but Clark made quick work of his come-from-behind victory on this night. DMason made the circus catch for 6 early in the 2nd quarter, and EGeorge hit the 100 yd mark early in the 3rd. Eddie also hit paydirt later in the game for some playoff positioning pts. Greasy also scored 15 for All Jacked Up. Tony Richardson and Dilger scored a pair of 9s for Merry Munching Merkins. Mmm starting QB BJ has 21 pts in 7 starts on the season - 4 pts behind Tony Banks! The bright spot for Vesh... Vanderjagt is 4th in RFL2k PK scoring.

Carpet Bombers 35
Nasty Pimps 39
The Monday Night injury bug bit Tim in the ass as Jimmy Smits lamed his
way out of the Titan-Jaguar contest. 1 measly TD and/or 100 yds for a
superstar like Jimmy against the bend-a-lot-and-break-a-little Titan D
was too much for his Carpet Bomber teammates to ask. Warner returned
from his bye to light it up again. The Twin Tyrones were essentially
one-sided again. Nasty Pimp WR Terrell Owens has seized the top spot
among RFL2k WR scoring at the halfway point - 5 ahead of Stan's Rod
Smith. Shiv tried to start Alstott (bye) and Husted (not on any team),
but thanks to the depth chart rule... priest and daluiso stepped in to
put up 7 pts - turning a 3 pt loss into a 4 pt win.

Black Ops 40
JoePa needed a Rambo-like bodycount from Operative Fred on Monday Night to avert a disastrous result in this week's mission. Fred's first burst behind enemy lines showed promise of heavy Titan casualties to come, but in the end... Fred came up 15 scalps short. Mike Anderson and Tony G scored a pair of dozens for Brodz. All 7 Sperms scored in this one - as the passing game notched 30. Black Ops were led by Boston's dozen - although a negative run of 22 yards nearly wiped out 3 pts from his 123 receiving yards.

Crazed Beagles on the Run 44
Minnesota Nice 64
Kevin's RB duo of CMartin and RWilliams exploded for 51 against Wally's
tinfoil defense. Even DBledsoe ran one in for 6! Minnesota Nice is a
strong 3rd in RFL2k RB points - pushing HTTA and CBH for the top spot in
the League. Round 2 of the BIG TRADE again went to Kevin on bench pts -
Dudley and JamalL both got 0 again, but Dayne outscored Autry 12-9 on
their respective benches. Wally got a solid dozen from Freeman and a
pair of 9s from RBs SMorris and KFaulk. 44 should be enough for a W, but
The Crazed Beagle D just couldn't keep them in this one. Former BC
standout (and current [alleged] child enticer) Chmura made a guest
appearance for Wally at TE.

The Everyday Tokers 15
TheArmchairQBAdventurePlayset(tm) 66
Richard's squad clearly wasn't ready to play as they suffered a letdown this Sunday after a full week of partying coming off their huge upset of Cals' FS last week. RSalaam and RErxleben took the spots of Enis and Gramatica. TET's pregame drug tests mysteriously disappeared under a thick, smelly cloud of suspicion. TAQAP(tm)'s Rod was fully elongated at 24 this week - while JAllen, JHorn, CLewis and DAkers were four-of-a-kind. McNair outscored Brunell 6-0 on Monday Night to complete Stan's 51-pt smoking of Richard.

Gary (WR)
Ali (WR)
Clark (WR)
Brodz (QB)
Wally (RB)
Richard (WR, PK)
JoePa (TE, PK)
Shivan (RB)
Joebob (QB)
Wang (RB)
Cals (WR)
You Wanna Piece of this Firewall?!?
Hackers traced back to the East Coast attempted to usurp control of RFL over the weekend. These sinister electronic attacks on the RFL HQ supercomputers resulted in knocking out communications for nearly 24 hours, but no propoganda from these e-terrorists ever reached the RFL information superpipeline. The perps have been caught and fined 500 RFL bucks each.

Ali - still must face Tim and Brodz
Brodz - big games coming up against Clark and Cals
Clark - should win out after loss to Brodz this week
Tim - should win out after loss to Ali this week
Cals - only Brodz stands in the way of perhaps running the table
Kevin - tough matchups remaining with Ali and Brodz
Wang - bubbleboy has burst
Joebob - should slide into playoffs after 1-4 start
Shivan - 4 game losing streak after 2-0 start was the killer blow
Gary - the creampuff part of %$!@#&'s schedule is over
Wally - paying penance with 1-3 scrub record in 1st half of season
Adam - looks like 5 consecutive losses to close out reg season
Stan - shrewd GM skills required to avoid 2-5 2nd half
JoePa - killer schedule over the 2nd half could mean 0-7
Vesh - should beat Richard in Week 9
Richard - looking to join the Relegated Franchise League in 2001
