THE CHEESE STANDS ALONE |
SLAB took care of business against Brian to claim sole possession of 1st
place in the Steamroller race at 7-2. The Black Sox fell victim to the
Reeducated Romanians, and Wide Open Beavers beat FU - as The Sox,
Romanians, and Beavers are all 6-3 and one game behind SLAB.
Tim's Y2K Bugs are the new easiest team in the League - getting scored
upon at a clip of 31.1 points per game.
Cals' Wide Open Beavers are still the toughest D to penetrate - allowing
19.2 ppg.
Gary's 12 Angry Men remains as the lone winless team.
The top scoring teams: SLAB (34.8) and Romanians (34.4)
The lowest scoring teams: 12 Angry Men (15.1) and Brian (15.7)
The League scoring average is: 25.7
GOPHERS GOLDEN ON SATURDAY
In a stunning result on Saturday, the Minnesota Golden Gophers knocked off previously 9th ranked Colorado College 2-1. Nate Miller tallied 2 goals and Adam Hauser notched 39 saves to help improve Minnesota to 2-5-1 on the season. In other games of note, BU swept Merrimack 5-2 (away) and 4-2 (home) over the weekend to extend the Terriers' record to 3-0 in Hockey East play. Also... the Minnesota gridiron team scraped by Penn State on a last second FG 24-23.
The Cane Division went 2-2 against the Pledge Paddle Division,
and the Belt Division went 2-2 against the Hand Division.
Enough random babbling... on to WIR #9!

**** GAME OF THE WEEK ****
****************************
Crazed Beagles on the Run 24
Jock Itch United 21
In a game most worthy of GOTW standing, Gary Anderson came through on Monday Night as the Beagles overcame a 6 point deficit to win by 3. Hoard and LaFleur ran on empty under the national spotlight. Wally also got nice production from Jimmy and Hines. Ali got a big 15 from Elam and a good game from Huard, but was let down by the double-0's from Terrell and Antonio. The Beagles are right back in the hunt for a playoff berth. JIU might be done for the season.

Terry Allen and Derek Loville sat out for MiB. Mistress Midori blocked
(not well enough - obviously) for The Diesel. Rickey Dudley was a dud
for 12 Pushover Men. Lady Olivia Outre matched Shannon Sharpe's 1999
season production in one game.

Y2K Bugs 20
Team Desai 42
STUNNING!!! After suffering a shocking defeat to Brian last week, Tim's Bugs were routed by lowly Team Desai this week and extend their losing streak to 3 games. Flutie scored for the 9th straight game, and FTaylor continued his comeback... but MHarrison was held scoreless. Watters finally burst through for Shivan - and Garner, Keyshawn, and Morton were solid contributors. That's why they play the games! This was Team Desai's first non-scrub victory.

Before Wang's helping of hubris became too heaping, Guru-for-life Cals reminded Wang just who the teacher is - and who the pupil is - when it comes to RFL. Before Moss even set foot on the Monday Night turf, Antowain, Donnell, and Tyrone did the spanking as the Beavers soiled the Underwear. Wang's gimpy Biakabutt escaped the spanking - as FU has clearly become a team of 3 scorers (Warner, Faulk, and Mare) and 4 0's. Cals has won 6 of his last 7 games.

Kevin received strong showings from Peyton and Brien, but the other DCIAC 5 got Dolphin-ed. Stan's pig-in-a-blanket Olandis put up 15, and Brunell returned from a 3-week benching to lead EFH to their 4th consecutive victory. DCIAC has dropped 4 of their last 5 contests.

After downgrading his QB slot from Bledsoe to Graham last week, Dylan figured he'd go QB-less this week (Goddess Jeanna handed the ball off to Emmitt and SDavis this week). UWSSM *still* managed to knock off Clark's B'runners. The B'runners were led by 15 from Rhett, but were let down by Favre. Dylan's team was led by Emmitt's 15 and Muhsin's 12 and was let down by Del Greco's 0.

Reeducated Romanians 34
The South Side Black Sox 27
This game featured big numbers from the PK's and a big-time duel between
Bettis and Edgerrin. Thanks to 3 from Curtis Martin, Vesh went into the
Sunday Nitro game with a 1 point lead. Things looked good for JoePa's
Black Sox - as the Sox had Air McNair and Kevin "drafted ahead of Moss"
Dyson to overcome the 1 point deficit and Tony Martin. However... Martin
stumbled and bumbled his way into the end zone, and the McNair-Dyson duo
put up a Robert Parish to seal the deal for the Reeducated Romanians.

Dilfer and Kirby put up a good fight for Brian, but Brodz' SLAB was just too talent-laden to succumb to the upset bid. Hollis seems to have a lock on All-RFL PK honors, Alstott put up 9, and even Ready Freddie hit paydirt to steamroll the bums (not to mention the 18 from Jeff and Cris on Monday night). If not for 2 scrub losses, SLAB would be 9-0.

Bam Morris ContrOversy II - The Commish's Office Strikes Back:
A trade was blocked behind the scenes this past week. Commissioner Wang and Gurus Cals and Joebob all vetoed the original trade. Basically... the RFL Board of Directors clearly saw how one of the teams would have benefitted, but failed to see how the trade would have helped the other team involved. Wang proposed a slight modification to the original list of players intended to be traded. Had the 2 teams involved accepted this proposal, the trade would have gone through. However... Wang's proposal seemed to fall on deaf ears.
Also... Wang offered to accept the original trade if the GM with the apparent short end of the stick would state - with a straight face - that he honestly felt the trade would help his team. This offer also went unaccepted.

RFL Playoff Picture
*******************
Projecting to the end of the regular season, here are the 8 teams expected to make the playoffs - and their seed positions.
1) SLAB 12-2
2) Romanians 11-3
3) Y2K Bugs 10-4
4) UWSSM 9-5
5) Men in Brown 9-5
6) Black Sox 9-5
7) Ferocious Underwear 7-7
8) DCIAC 7-7
The following teams would appear to be left out of the postseason lambada:
9) Beagles 7-7
10) Beavers 7-7
11) Bladerunners 7-7
12) Enid Furth Harmony 6-8
13) Jock Itch United 5-9
14) Team Desai 3-11
15) Brian's bums 3-11
16) 12 Angry Men 0-14
Clearly... spots 7-12 are totally up for grabs. MiB and The Black Sox appear to be comfortably in. JIU seems to have no shot.
3 teams look to be favored to win the rest of their regular season
games: Y2K Bugs, Romanians, and SLAB. FU might be the only "dangerous"
opponent left for Y2K Bugs and the Romanians. UWSSM and SLAB face off in
Week 14. With a little luck for UWSSM, perhaps this game will be
contested with the Steamroller on the line.
