**** RFL WEEK IN REVIEW **** | ||
NEXT YEAR NEVER DIES... |
Team Desai, Brian's nameless bunch of bums, and 12 Angry Men are the
only 3 teams eliminated from playoff contention - as RFL 99-00 heads
into its final week of the regular season. SLAB, Ram-tough Romanians,
FU, and the Black Sox are virtually assured of berths in the postseason.
A mad scramble of 9 (NINE!!!) teams at 7-6 or 6-7 will play musical
chairs for the other 4 seeds. A closer look at the Playoff Race follows.
Gary's 12 Angry Men is still the most porous D in the League -
surrendering 30.2 ppg.
Bladerunners continue as the stingiest D - giving up a mere 22.0 ppg.
The top scoring teams: SLAB (36.1) and Romanians (34.4)
The lowest scoring teams: 12 Angry Men (16.5) and Brian (17.2)
The League scoring average is: 26.3
NEW AGE FOR RFL AND NFL
As we head towards a Rams-Jaguars or Lions-Colts Super Bowl, one will
also notice the emergence of a new order in the RFL points leaders. In
the QB race, gone are Young and Favre. Duking it out are Warner and
Manning - with Johnson a little behind. In the RB race, fading badly are
Emmitt/Watters/Allen/Bettis. Edgerrin and SDavis are battling for RFL
MVP honors. At WR... CCarter is still competitive, but TBrown, MIrvin,
and JRice are has beens. MHarrison is the new #1 stud - with RMoss being
held back by the Viking O Coordinator. At TE... WWalls is still doing
well representing old school, but SSharpe and BCoates have vanished into
the sunset. Dudley and Gonzalez are becoming potential 4th round picks
in the 2000 Draft. In the PK race, Elam, Cunningham, and Mort are
dropping down draft lists all around RFL-land. Vanderjagt, Mare, and
Hanson are now where it's at.
After sweeping 2 from UMass-Amherst over the weekend, BU has moved up
to #7 in the college hockey rankings. Wisconsin is now #2, Michigan is
#8, and Minnesota went vote-less.
Enough random babbling... on to WIR #13!

**** GAME OF THE WEEK ****
****************************
Team Desai 28
Enid Furth Harmony 39
After starting the season at 2-2, Team Desai has gone 2-7 over the last
9 games. Stan started the 99-00 campaign with 5 L's, but has now gone
6-2 over the last 8 games. Both teams appeared to be "up" for GOTW.
Desais put up more than 24 points for only the 3rd time this season, and
Stan cracked the 24+ pt barrier for only his 4th time. Desais got nifty
9's from both RB's, but Hanson and T Brown led EFH to victory. Brunell
and Olandis also scored for Stan - as EFH shined brightly in their 1st
GOTW appearance of the season. Blofeld took OJ's TE spot for Desais.
Stan still has a shot at a playoff spot!

Men in Brown 33
Wide Open Beavers 30
Like Pat Riley vs KC Jones, Tommy Lasorda vs Billy Martin, and Don Shula
vs Bud Grant before them... Cals and Joebob took to the field of battle
on this day - 2 arch-enemies, 2 leaders by example, 2 legends in their
own minds (who have seen the game pass them by). The most recent
installment of this tired series came down to some Monday Night Madness.
With the score knotted at 27 on Sunday night, TAllen sliced through the
Dallas D to give MiB a 6-point lead heading into MNF. Cals had Vikings R
Smith and R Moss to play, but Joebob had the bench scoring advantage.
Madness failed to materialize - as neither Smith nor Moss came close to
threatening the MiB D. Smith got 100 yards, but neither guy got a whiff
of the endzone.
It is now a possibility that both Cals AND Joebob will finish out of the
Ags Bowl hunt! Joebob, please research THAT tidbit!
SCRUB LOSS for Cals (3-3) - his 3rd SL in the last 4 weeks! Are the RFL
gods trying to tell us something?!?

Y2K Bugs 8
Don't Call It a Comeback 30
Y2K Bugs were 5-1 and in 1st place overall after 6 weeks, but have now
gone 2-5 over the past 7. Tim was w/o Flutie for the 1st time this
season, and the Bug O fell apart. With F Taylor, J Linton, and S Hicks
all out, Dr No had to lead block for Karim. After losing 6 of 7, Kevin
has now won 2 in a row. Every DCIAC starter scored except for Holt.
Bynum, Galloway, and Gonzalez all hit paydirt.
DCIAC actually has a chance to snatch an invite to the big dance!

Bladerunners 43
Crazed Beagles on the Run 25
Clark wins for only the 2nd time in the last 6 weeks, but are still looking good to make the playoffs. Dillon exploded for a BLACKJACK against the Beagles - severely damaging the Beagles' playoff hopes. Clark also backed into 12 from Chrebet when Mills DNP'ed for Dallas. Jimmy came up big for the Beagles again, but steroids problems with Jim Miller, Dorsey Levens, and Eric Moulds left Wally's team shorthanded.

Ram-tough Romanians 28
brian's bums 15
Vesh kept pace with Brodz' SLAB and shaved 5 points off SLAB's total pts
lead. Vanderjagt was virtually all the Romanians needed. Gannon could
possibly move up to #4 in the final QB rankings. Vesh has won 10 out of
his last 11 games. Brian's team did about as well as could be expected.
The bums will look to spoil Clark's playoff hopes in Week 14.

12 Angry Men 10
Ferocious Underwear 24
Foge Fazio continued his masterful defensive work for FU - as Wang's
team has gone 3-0 since hiring Fazio. Foge crafted such a perfect
gameplan... O superstars Aikman, Dunn/Murrell, KFaulk, Poole, and Dudley
were all shutout! Jacquez broke through for Gary's only TD, but the FU D
contained Green from that point on. 12 Angry Men will attempt to put an
end to Stan's playoff hopes in Week 14.

The South Side Black Sox 22
Skintight Leather Assless Bodysuits 23
Brodz reaffirmed his GM of the Year credentials by calling Tony Dungy on
the sidelines to challenge the call on Hoard's 2nd TD. Indeed... Hoard's
TD was taken away, and JGeorge was able to toss the scoring pass to Cris
that SLAB needed for the 1 point victory - TRUE MONDAY MADNESS!!!
JoePa's Black Sox were led by Edgerrin's 15. Edgerrin now leads all
non-PK's in RFL scoring. JoePa now looks to secure the #3 seed with a
big win over Ali. Brodz will look to claim the Steamroller with a win
over UWSSM.

Dylan was 6-4 and looking good for a top 4 seed in the playoffs. But now
at 7-6 and with a showdown against SLAB in Week 14, UWSSM might *barely*
hold onto a playoff spot if they lose. Kerry put up a big 18 for UWSSM,
but Ali shutdown the vaunted UWSSM RB attack. This was the 1st time all
season Dylan got less than 6 points from his RB's. Largo took to the
gridiron at TE for Dylan. Marino and Stewart set the pace for the JIU
attack - as Ali scored more than 23 pts for only the 3rd time this
season. James Stewart is now in 7th place among RB's!

Playoff Game Tiebreakers:
During the regular season... if two teams tie with respect to starter
points and bench points, the game is declared a tie. In the playoffs,
the tiebreaker system below is employed:

3) BENCH YARDS
4) COIN TOSS

16 | 12 Angry Men | 1-12 | 215 | 1-1 | EFH |
Projected Finish:
1) SLAB 11-3
Brodz must face Dylan - in Week 14's GOTW
2) Romanians 11-3
Vesh "only" has to deal with Wally
3) FU 9-5
Favored over Desais
4) Black Sox 9-5
Looks like: close win over Ali
5) Y2K Bugs 8-6
Should be a close one against Cals
6) B'runners 8-6
Looks like: win over Brian
7) UWSSM 7-7
Looks like: loss to Brodz
8) Beagles 7-7
Looks like: loss to Vesh
Clearly the key differentiator between placings 7 through 12 is total
points scored. UWSSM currently has a 78 point lead on Beagles. The
Beagles, Beavers, and DCIAC are all within 1 (ONE!!!) point of each
other. Scoring BIG in Week 14 cannot be overstated! MiB is currently 17
points behind Beagles, and EFH is 53 points behind Beagles.
T-9) Beavers 7-7
Tough game against Tim
T-9) DCIAC 7-7
Tough game against Joebob
11) MiB 7-7
Underdog against Kevin
12) EFH 7-7
Should be able to beat Gary
13) JIU 5-9
Tough game against JoePa
14) Team Desai 4-10
Tough game against Wang
15) Brian 3-11
Tough game against Clark
16) 12 Angry 1-13
Tough game against Stan

FAVE | SPREAD | DOG |
---|---|---|
4-Don't Call It a Comeback (6-7, 27.1) | 2 | 1-Men in Brown (7-6, 25.8) |
Many playoff implications here. If MiB wins, they will most likely make the playoffs. If DCIAC wins and scores loads of points, Kevin could just make it in the backdoor. | ||
2-Y2K Bugs (7-6, 28.6) | 3 | 3-Wide Open Beavers (7-6, 27.1) |
The winner is in. The loser could still get an invitation to the postseason party - as long as they score enough points, and as long as their BCS and RPI ratings are high enough. | ||
5-Bladerunners (7-6, 21.9) | 6 | 8-brian (3-10, 17.2) |
A win for Clark and the 'runners are most likely in. If Brian wins, the 'runners have virtually no shot at making a run at the Ags Bowl X. | ||
6-Romanians (10-3, 34.4) | 10 | 7-Crazed Beagles on the Run (7-6, 27.2) |
A Romanian win and a SLAB loss would mean a 2nd consecutive Steamroller for Vesh. A loss for Wally could mean no playoffs - if they don't score enough points. | ||
12-Ferocious Underwear (8-5, 30.9) | 4 | 9-Team Desai (4-9, 20.8) |
A win for FU, and Wang will most likely secure the #3 seed in the playoffs. A win for Team Desai, and FU could possibly fall all the way from #3 to #9!!! | ||
11-Enid Furth Harmony (6-7, 23.1) | 9 | 10-12 Angry Men (1-12, 16.5) |
Stan needs to win, score about 75 points, and have several other games go his way. | ||
13-The South Side Black Sox (8-5, 28.2) | 7 | 16-Jock Itch United (6-7, 22.8) |
The Black Sox have their eye on the #3 seed, but JoePa must also defend against the remote possibility off falling completely out of the playoff picture. Ali needs to win, score about 79 points, and have several other games go his way. |
